I've decided to do a series on a my blog called Life As A Student, where every Monday leading up to freshers week I will be doing advice posts for all freshers, students and anyone that wants to know really. You can read last week's one here, also I'd love it if you messaged me or commented and told me any university related topics you would like me to cover. Today I'm going to give you some tips for freshers week and along the way give you little snippets of my freshers week.
Try and arrive in the morning or mid-afternoon. Going out clubbing with people you only met a few hours ago is actually quite scary. Moving in in the evening whilst everyone is getting ready to go out may be an awkward experience. I was the first one to arrive and I spent about an hour walking up and down the corridor shouting ''Hello, is anyone here?!'' convinced that they were all hiding from me!
Leave your door open/Bring a door stop. This tip didn't really work for me because I was right at the end of a narrow so no one ever came near my door but I do know that it worked for some of my friends living at other halls.
You don't have to do anything you don't want to. You don't have to drink! Due to medical reasons I didn't drink during freshers; I still made friends though and I still went out. To be honest getting absolutely wasted everyday of the week isn't me anyway, if you're having fun I don't think anyone will notice you haven't drunk.
Go to your course inductions My course inductions were absolutely pointless and I really didn't need to go :) but being the great influence that I am, I encourage you to go to all of them.
Explore your new city. If your completely new to the city why not check it out during the day. I done this twice and realised what a beautiful city Nottingham is and I also got lost!
Freshers Flu. Now I didn't get freshers flu *woohoo* and neither did my flatmates but I have heard it makes you feel absolutely dreadful. Don't wait till you're too sick to get out of bed before buying antibiotics.
Go to Freshers Fair. How can you say no to freebies! Its also where you find out about societies so I would really recommend you go to freshers fair and join a society. If your too scared to go to trials/auditions or society meet and greets by yourself why not ask your flatmate if they can come with you.

Be nice. Not everyone has a loud personality, some people can be very shy and find it hard to make friends please please please don't leave anyone out. I really do feel sad when I see someone is with a group of people and they look left out. It won't kill you to ask them if they're alright, even if they're a complete stranger you can ask them if they wanna stick with you or hold their arm or hand whilst walking through the club.
