FASHION| BLACK & GOLD

It's been a long time but I'm back woohoo! The stress of assignments, essays and being the president of the dance club are long behind me. I can now look forward to blogging more frequently, searching for a internships and actually being a REAL adult!

So a few weeks ago I went to my third and final sports ball where I got to unleash my inner edgy 70's gal. I wore this black and gold jumpsuit from ASOS, when I first saw it on the website I wasn't to keen but there was just something about it so I ordered it anyway. However the moment I got my hands on it I absolutely fell in love!!

You can't really see my shoes but I decided to opt out of torturing my feet with sky high heels and instead treated myself to a really nice pair of lace up wedges from Public Desire.

I kept it simple with the jewellery; some simple gold hoops from Primark (which I always lose and always go back to repurchase) and a simple choker from Pretty Little Thing that I only got for £3.

(...And to top the amazing evening off my amazing club won 'Club of the Year'!!!)

INTERVIEW | WITH BRITISH OLYMPIAN SAVANAH LEAF - FEMALE ROLE MODELS

Had the opportunity to interview British Olympian Savanah Leaf on a subject I'm passionate about and I found her answers really interesting, so enjoy :).

Through my research I've found that female athletes feel pressure to conform to a certain look and body typeHave you ever felt this pressure? Whether is was before you began playing internationally or after. Also where do you think this pressure is coming from?

I  I honestly think that each sport is very different. When you get to a top level, you start to understand your body in certain ways, you realize what your body can and cannot do. A lot of the reason why we become top athletes is because we have the right body type before we even do our sport. Our trainings aids the body type that we were given, for example, I am naturally quite tall and lean. My training has made me stronger and able to control my athleticism. I think I have received more pressure since I've been trying to do fitness modeling. They want really skinny models with lean muscles, which is not necessarily what athletes have.

Women first took part in the Olympics in 1900 which was well over 100 years ago but there still seems to be an issue of equity. Only 5% of media coverage of sport in the UK is devoted to women, It's no secret that men are seen as the 'stronger gender'. As a professional athlete have you ever felt underestimated or undervalued because you are a female?

Although this is quite sad to admit, I never really expect to get the coverage or support that a male athlete would receive. I have kind of accepted the fact that female athletes have less media coverage. Although i would love this to change, I think it's going to take a while because this has been going on forever. I mean if you think about it, men were the hunters. There are so many aspects that go into this equity problem, and a large portion of that is due to sociological components, but then there are also evolutionary and biological components as well. Let's not forget biology here. But I will say, I have felt undervalued for being a female athlete. In the Olympics, the majority of the messages I received on social media were men talking about my ass, not people talking about how I played. That was really disappointing to me because I didn't work extremely hard for 8 years to entertain people on international television for my looks..

By the age of 14, girls drop out of sports at twice the rate boys do, with reasons such as: ''None of my friends play it anymore'', ''Sport is too competitive'' and ''People think its weird''. What/Who motivated and influenced you when you was a teenager playing sport?
Well I didn't start playing sports till I moved to the U.S. When I was about 9 years old. When I lived in London I was all about music, theatre, and dance. I think if I lived their throughout my childhood I would probably be a singer or something by now. That was mainly because of where I lived, what was accessible to me, and what I loved at the time. When I moved to America, my love for the arts was all of a sudden 'not cool'. All the popular kids were playing sports, and so after some years when I was about 12 I had given up music, theatre, and dance for volleyball and basketball. For me, this whole thing was sort of opposite. I think the people that influenced me most to continue playing were my mum and coaches. I started realizing that sports came naturally to me, and I was a lot better than most people. This made me think about how I could pay for my university in the US by playing sports. So that's what I did, with a huge sacrifice, which was my love for the arts.

How important do you believe female role models in sport are for young girls?

I think they are extremely important. I mean that's half of my job. I wouldn't do this if I didn't receive some of the feedback that I have had from young girls telling me they want to be just like me, or that they are inspired by my stories, or that they chose their jersey number to copy mine. Positive female role models give younger girls strength to pursue their dreams, and that goes for anything. My mum has been a strong single mother my whole life, and she is that sort of strong independent woman that I look up to. Even though she isn't a professional athlete, I have taken a lot of what she does and used it in my pursuit to become an Olympian and professional athlete.

Do you have anything else you would like to add?
Nope, great questions !

Smoking in cars could be illegal by the end of the year.

( This is an online article I wrote for an assignment early January)

Enforcement officers will be able to issue a £50 fine for smoking in a vehicle and failing to prevent smoking in a vehicle carrying under 18s.

Last year an idea to ban smoking in cars carrying children received a majority vote by MPs.
Once again MPs and peers will vote on the proposal and if passed the ban will come into effect from October 1st.
The new law will apply to anyone carrying children in a car, not just parents. Although it will not apply if the driver is under 18 and alone in a vehicle.
There is also great support from the public for this ban, a YouGov poll taken last year found that 77% of adults in Great Britain agreed that smoking should be banned in vehicles carrying under 18s.
Scotland and Wales have also put forward plans to ban smoking in vehicles containing children.
Second hand smoke in children can increase the risk of asthma attacks, common colds, meningitis and cot deaths.
Dr Ilze Bogdanovica from The UK Centre for Tobacco Control Studies says the level of second hand smoke is higher in a vehicle because it's a very confined space.
According to Cancer Research UK second-hand smoke has caused strokes, lung disease and heart disease which have led to 12,000 deaths in the UK.
This will be the first smoking ban after smoking in pubs, restaurants and all workplaces was made illegal in July 2007.
''It's totally unnecessary,''.
But Simon Clark director of the smokers group FOREST said ''this is all about forcing people to give up smoking,''.

''As long as tobacco remains a legal product smokers do have rights and that includes being allowed to smoke where ever they want,''.

Hiya! Welcome to the next part of my Life As A Student series and today I'm going to give you an idea of what to bring to university. LIFE AS A STUDENT | FRESHERS WEEK

I've decided to do a series on a my blog called Life As A Student, where every Monday leading up to freshers week I will be doing advice posts for all freshers, students and anyone that wants to know really. You can read last week's one here, also I'd love it if you messaged me or commented and told me any university related topics you would like me to cover. Today I'm going to give you some tips for freshers week and along the way give you little snippets of my freshers week.

Try and arrive in the morning or mid-afternoon. Going out clubbing with people you only met a few hours ago is actually quite scary. Moving in in the evening whilst everyone is getting ready to go out may be an awkward experience. I was the first one to arrive and I spent about an hour walking up and down the corridor shouting ''Hello, is anyone here?!'' convinced that they were all hiding from me!

Leave your door open/Bring a door stop. This tip didn't really work for me because I was right at the end of a narrow so no one ever came near my door but I do know that it worked for some of my friends living at other halls.

You don't have to do anything you don't want to. You don't have to drink! Due to medical reasons I didn't drink during freshers; I still made friends though and I still went out. To be honest getting absolutely wasted everyday of the week isn't me anyway, if you're having fun I don't think anyone will notice you haven't drunk.

Go to your course inductions  My course inductions were absolutely pointless and I really didn't need to go :) but being the great influence that I am, I encourage you to go to all of them.

Explore your new city. If your completely new to the city why not check it out during the day. I done this twice and realised what a beautiful city Nottingham is and I also got lost!

Freshers Flu. Now I didn't get freshers flu *woohoo* and neither did my flatmates but I have heard it makes you feel absolutely dreadful. Don't wait till you're too sick to get out of bed before buying antibiotics.

Go to Freshers Fair. How can you say no to freebies! Its also where you find out about societies so I would really recommend you go to freshers fair and join a society. If your too scared to go to trials/auditions or society meet and greets by yourself why not ask your flatmate if they can come with you.

Be nice. Not everyone has a loud personality, some people can be very shy and find it hard to make friends please please please don't leave anyone out. I really do feel sad when I see someone is with a group of people and they look left out. It won't kill you to ask them if they're alright, even if they're a complete stranger you can ask them if they wanna stick with you or hold their arm or hand whilst walking through the club.

LIFE AS A STUDENT | UNIVERSITY SURVIVAL GUIDE

I remember this time last year I was all over blogs and YouTube looking at  tips for university students and watching university experience videos. Now that my first year of university is over I feel like I am qualified to give advice to freshers starting in September.

Socialize. This is something I wish I did more in my first year. Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a really chatty person and I love meeting new people. For some reason I found it really hard to socialize and I was really guarded. I joined the dance society and didn't really fit in or start making friends until December/January and I only really talk to 2 people in my seminar group! Don't be scared to go up to people and introduce yourself. I remember in freshers week people would randomly coming up to me and introduce themselves. So that's a tip for you guys and definitely one for myself going into second year.

Manage Your Time. I struggled with this quite a lot. I have a very hands on course, a lot of it involves spending hours in the newsroom; trying to find people to interview, going to court and on top of that I of course had coursework deadlines. I was also on the first dance team and trained 4 times a week, when it got closer to performances  rehearsal could go up to 6 times a week so I was always busy. Not managing my time meant I was starting coursework 4/5 days before it was due which I promise you is not fun. I've done a blog post on how to keep organised which you can read here

You're Not Going To Be Friends With Everyone. You are going to meet so many different people ( you will come across a couple of bell ends! ), you're not going to get along with them all. Some of the people you don't get along with might even be your flatmates. Or I could be wrong and you might end up being best friends with everyone you meet! I didn't get along with 2 of my flatmates and let's just say the thought of never seeing them again fills me with joy :). But I get along so well with my other 4 flatmates that the other 2 don't even matter, I'm living with them for the next year and I miss them so much too!!

Keep Active. I know that a lot of people feel that they put on weight when they go to university. I personally didn't take notice if I put weight on or not but every time I came back home to London my mum would say I look like I've been starving myself. I kept active through dance and right at the end of the year I starting going to the gym.

Manage Your Money. Let's just say half way through first term and second term my bank balance was £0.00 :)

Go to Freshers Fair. How can you say no to freebies!

Join a society. I joined the dance society and I must say it was the best decision ever. I only went to the dance auditions because my flatmate wanted me to go with her and I ended up getting on first team! Being part of dance I've had the opportunity to perform in the Capital FM arena, had the opportunity to go to Liverpool, participate in so many competitions and of course met some beautiful, talented people.

Have fun. It's such an amazing experience and it's going to go by so fast. You don't want to look back and regret anything. Work hard (very hard) and play harder!!

Have you got any more tips for students? If your starting university in September what are you most worried about?

LIFE AS A STUDENT | GET ORGANISED

Since starting university, there have been many occasions where I felt like things are being thrown at me all at once and out of the blue. I do feel that staying organised, planning your weeks and just getting things done makes student life just that tiny bit easier. I've come up with a few tips on how to get organized and if it helps at least one person I'll be a very happy girl.

Get An Academic Diary/Notebook
Writing down what you are doing during the week and then planning around it really helps. So if you want to go out Saturday night but you have an assignment to do, you plan your week around making sure you have it done before Saturday.

Budgeting - Get A Small Academic Diary
Before starting university I thought I was amazing at saving money and budgeting.. I thought wrong! In my first and second term I found myself pretty poor after a month and half ( I learnt from my mistakes, and I have done really well in the third term). So unless you have a money tree I'd advise that you get budgeting

Use Your Phone
If you've got a smart phone; calenders, to do lists and planning apps are a great way of keeping organised. Although I do feel that having everything written is much better.

Have A Separate Folder For Each Module
When I first started university I bought a big folder for all my modules and after a couple of weeks I realized that it just wasn't going to work. So I bought a smaller folder for each of my modules, this way I could actually fit the folder in my bag (TIP: Now the year is over I have taken all the work out of my small module folders and put them into my big folder. This way I have all my first year work in one place and I can use the small folders for modules in second year)

Spend A Couple Of Minutes At The Beginning Of The Week To Plan Your Week
This ties in with my very first point but whenever you think its appropriate to plan your week, whether it be every week or every day

Plan Your Outfit The Day Before
Now, In the morning if you take longer picking out your outfit than you do actually getting ready then this definitely applies to you.

Prepare Your Bag The Night Before
Rushing out of your house, getting to uni and then finding out that you've forgotten something is very annoying!

Actually STICK TO IT!
Now there is no point planning your week if your not actually going to stick to the plan is there ?!
